Wagga Trail Marathon
The Wagga Trail was a busy day with 4 events timed on the Sunday. There was an early start group an hour before the main Marathon start wave at 8:30am. We ran a net time for the marathon with a split for the start as the start line and finish line were at the same location. The 1/2 marathon started at the same time, but out on the course, with a gun time used for the start. A Teams event made up the 3rd event out on the Marthon course. A 10km run was the 4th event, which was run during the Marathon with the start time 15 minutes later. A net time was used for the 10k as well as the start and finish points were the same as the marathon. It was a busy day with 53 Marathon finishers, 15 Marathon teams, 102 1/2 marathon finishers and 93 10km finishers. All up 263 competitors and teams received a finish time.
The finish certificates were a real hit. We provided an enquiry kiosk and entrant certificate service where competitors were able to receive their finish certificate complete with time and position information. The competitors really appreciated walking up and receiving their certificate on the spot – it was a real hit. Louise did a great job handing t hem out.
Next year the committee have decided to revisit the 10km course. The big lesson from the day was to not run the 10k competitors back beside the finish point before they actually finish. Some thought they had finished and stopped, others wen’t the wrong way, causing some troublesome split readings as they went over the wrong timing mats. However, it was a great day and the event went well for all the competitors and organisers. Well done to the Wagga Trail Marathon Committee on a fantastic event.
